Iraq: Ezidies after escaping from mass killing, rape and dying from dehydration
Ezidies people escaped from their territories to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq because of the genocide perpetrated upon them by the IS (Islamic State).
As soon as the IS took over the Ezidies territories, many local people who were Non-Ezidies but well knowing the area and Ezidies families, turned against them with the IS. They together killed men and took families. Hundreds of women have been kidnapped, raped and sold in public markets. This fact made Ezidies hopeless and not want to ever go back again to their territories.
Nowadays, Ezidies are sleeping on the streets in thousands near the Kurdish-Turkish border waiting for the border to be open in order to escape from Iraq. Despite of those tens of thousands living in incomplete buildings and schools with lack of food and no clothes.
The starving people are now walking in thousands in demonstrations, in northern Iraq near the Turkish border, claiming for asylum and the opening of the border. The border has been closed by the Kurdistan Regional Government since the beginning of Ezidies escape toward the border. The government is forbidding the Ezidies to demonstrate. Police are hitting the demonstrators, both men and women, even forbidding the media to cover these demonstrations so the voices of demonstrators do not reach the international community. The Ezidies are saying that the image of co-existence that reaches the West is misleading and we no more can survive in Iraq, because not only IS is killing us, but the people as well.
