EU: Minority Voices - a community-based media initiative

Alternative content

This is a recording from the Minority Voices conference, held in Budapest in May 2010.

In this recording:

MRG’s Mohamed Matovu and Vanessa Ntekola Chandapiwa (RETENG) give an insight into the methodology of the Minority Voices Programme, a community-based media programme targeting the EU media. MRG’s Emma Eastwood adds that this is a ‘training for trainers’ programme as well, therefore modules can be passed on to partner organisations. MRG’s Farah Mihlar urges communities to use international media as an advocacy tool because their issues can catch the eye of international journalists. This is what this training is exactly aiming at, to amplify the voices of minorities. She also explains that MRG’s basic principle has been that the representatives of communities are promoted to give interviews and MRG acts as a helping hand to get the way to the journalists.
